Expectations vs reality of an EMR

Every call is lights and sirens.

Most calls are calm: falls, sick people, transfers. Being kind matters as much as skills.

You need to memorize everything.

You need to understand the patient assessment model and use it every time.

Paramedics never get nervous.

Everyone feels nervous. Practice turns nerves into a routine you can trust.

It's all about the medicine.

Communication, teamwork and lifting safely are a huge part of the job.

You'll fix everyone.

Your job is to keep people safe, comfortable and stable until the next level of care.
